McDonald’s hikes price of 5 menu items from TODAY – see full list

McDonald's is hiking the price of five menu items from today, blaming the cost of living crisis.

The fast food chain, which has more than 1,200 restaurants in the UK, said it had been hit with rising food and energy prices "like many other businesses".

The items that are going up in price are:

  • Mayo Chicken: 99p to £1.19 (up 20%)
  • Bacon Mayo Chicken: £1.59 to £1.79 (up 12.6%)
  • Bacon Double Cheeseburger: £2.49 to £2.69 (up 8%)
  • Triple Cheeseburger: £2.69 to £2.89 (up 7.4%)
  • Medium Fizzy Drink: £1.39 to £1.49 (up 7.1%)

Prices do vary across different restaurants as some are operated by franchisees.

McDonald's can recommend how its franchises set their prices, but can't order them to introduce increases.

It comes after McDonald’s raised prices in July 2022 with its classic single cheeseburger going up for the first time in 14 years.

The cheeseburger was increased from 99p to £1.19, with other menu items also being hiked by between 10p and 20p.

A spokesperson told The Mirror: “We are committed to offering great tasting food at affordable prices. However, like many businesses, the impact of the increase in food and energy costs continues to affect our company and our franchisees."

"We carefully review and adjust pricing to offer great value and quality.

"At the same time, we continue to work hard on how we can provide our customer's value where it matters most, with personalised offers and rewards through the MyMcDonald’s Rewards scheme."

McDonald’s isn’t the only restaurant chain to increase prices in recent months due to soaring inflation, which currently sits at 10.5%.

Earlier this month, The Mirror revealed Nando’s has hiked its prices by 16% – just a year after an 8% increase.

A quarter chicken with two sides now costs an extra £1.70 – up from £8.75 to £9.95.

Bosses put the price hikes down to an increase in the cost of ingredients and running their restaurants.

Wetherspoon has also upped prices across a range of its popular drinks and menu items.

Prices have gone by around 7.5% which adds up to 29p on a pint and around 75p on food.

Alongside this price increase, the popular chain announced it was also trialling a new range of Saver Meals in 120 of its South East of England stores.

Launched today, the trial will see the Cheeseburger, Mayo Chicken or Double Cheeseburger available with a side and a drink to form the Saver Meal.

The Cheeseburger and Mayo Chicken Saver Meals will be priced at £3.99, with the Double Cheeseburger at £4.79.

This pilot menu will run for the next 12 weeks until Tuesday, May 9, if proven to be popular McDonald's will consider rolling out the new saver menu nationwide.

McDonald's has also announced that a range of fan favourite items will be returning to its menu from today.
