Top 30 places where house prices have increased most this year – does your town make the list?
West Dunbartonshire in Scotland has been named the top place in the UK for property price growth in 2024.
New analysis of house prices shows properties here have soared by an average of 6.1% – or by £7,940 to £138,310 – over the last 12 months. The second-best performing area is Inverclyde, where property prices have gone up by 5.4% to £127,370 this year, while in third place is Renfrewshire, where the average house price increased by 4.7% to 160,090.
The only top ten house price growth spot not in Scotland is West Lancashire, where property prices went up by 4.1% to £237,240. North West locations including Cheshire East, Cumberland and Bolton made the top 20 list, while just one spot in the Midlands made the cut – and none were further south in England.
The biggest falls in property prices are in the south or east of England, with Kensington and Chelsea taking the top spot after the average house price fell 8.6% to £1,246,520. The latest Land Registry data shows the average property in the UK is now valued at £292,000, up 2.9% compared to the previous year.
Aneisha Beveridge, head of research at Hamptons, which shared its data with Mail Online, said: "Areas that were slow to recover following the 2008 financial crash have been catching up over the last few years. This is particularly true in Scotland where average prices have grown nearly twice as fast as the national average."
