Major US fast food chain set to open first UK restaurants in six major cities – see full list

The iconic US fast food giant Chuck E Cheese is set to open new stores in the UK.

The Texas-based family restaurant chain is reportedly set to open six branches across England and Scotland. Currently, sites could be launched in Milton Keyes, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, and Bristol. The chain is reportedly targeting shopping centres, retail parks, and leisure parks with car park frontage. It has not been confirmed exactly when the new stores could open.

According to Completely Retail News, Chuck E Cheese is targeting areas where there are more than 25,000 under 12s located within a 20 minute drive. Wright Property has been appointed to oversee the expansion plan in the UK.

Chuck E Cheese is an iconic restaurant chain across the pond and is pretty much a US version of a Wacky Warehouse as children can play in a soft play area with climbing frames and arcade games. The restaurant chain's menu includes fast food such as pizzas, wings, and fries. According to its website, it also has a "grown-up menu", which consists of things such as BBQ chicken, spicy Hawaiian, BBQ piggy, and meatball pizzas.

Brits are aware of it due to references in popular American shows such as Family Guy and the Simpsons. The chain was founded in California in 1977 and is known for its mouse mascot. Alongside its franchise sites, the company operates around 600 restaurants across 16 different countries. The company said that the UK was a "key target market" in its expansion plan.

A Chuck E. Cheese spokesperson told The Caterer: “We are actively expanding the Chuck E. Cheese brand internationally, with Europe, including the UK, as a key target market. While there is nothing specific to announce currently, we are excited to see our intellectual property resonate globally as we continue to gauge interest from potential franchise partners worldwide.”

It joins a growing number of US restaurant chains planning UK expansion, with Dave’s Hot Chicken making its UK debut this month with a store opening on London's Shaftsbury Avenue. Tex-Mex brand Velvet Taxo will also be making its UK debut next spring, and the US burger chain Wendy's is also set to open eight new sites, with Wingstop planning to open 15 more. Chick-fil-A is also set to make a second attempt to launch nationwide next year, and Popeyes is working to expand its high street presence up from its current 50 stores.
