Nando’s is opening 14 restaurants in UK expansion – full list of new sites so far

Nando’s is ramping up its restaurant opening plans after reporting stronger sales figures.

The Peri-Peri chain is opening 14 new UK restaurants over the current financial year, including sites that have already opened in Edinburgh, Newcastle, Doncaster, Taplow, Bognor Regis, Watford, Northampton and Belfast. In the financial year to February 2024, Nando's opened 17 restaurants, with 11 of these in the UK and Ireland.

In its latest financial update, Nando’s said sales surpassed pre-pandemic levels after “strong customer demand” as its revenues grew by 7.5% to £1.37 billion for the year to February 25, compared with the previous year. It made £86.6million in investment over the year, in the form of new openings and refurbished restaurants.

Nando’s also reduced its pre-tax losses to £50.1million for the year, from a £86.2 million loss a year earlier. The group reported an operating profit of £59.8million for the year. However, Rob Papps, group chief executive of Nando’s, said the economic backdrop remains “uncertain” and stressed cost inflation has stayed at “elevated levels”.

Mr Papps said: “The 2024 financial year saw Nando’s deliver a good sales performance and a return to pre-pandemic levels of operating profit driven by robust consumer demand for our flame-grilled peri-peri chicken supported by our strong brand and customer proposition. Despite the improved sales performance, ongoing cost pressure with energy, labour and food remained very challenging.“

It comes after Nando's shook up its menu – including a new sauce that is made with a popular fizzy drink. The chicken shop chain has created a brand new Peri-Peri sauce with Fanta Orange Zero Sugar. Nando's says the new spice has a "sweet and tangy" orange flavour with a little kick of spice.

Nando’s new Fanta flavour comes in between mild and medium, in terms of its heat level. Chicken fans will be able to enjoy the new sauce with five Nando's X Fanta chicken wings, which you can get on their own for £7.25 or with two regular sides for £12.95.

The new Peri-Peri flavour will be available across all of the Nando's menu. There are also other new menu items. The first is a new Cheesy Garlic Pitta starter, which will set you back £4.75. This is a toasted sourdough pitta with melty cheddar cheese, garlic, spring onions and a hint of Peri-Peri, served with red pepper chutney on the side.

A new burger has also been introduced. The Cheesy "Chickle" Burger features grilled chicken breast with melted cheddar cheese, Peri-ketchup, Garlic Peri-naise, lettuce, and a stack of herby pickles, served in a new, soft Portuguese roll. The chicken chain has also launched a new All-in Platter for two and a Garlic Churrasco Peri-naise dip pot. The platter will set you back £33.75 – or £16.87 each – with the new Peri-naise dip pot costing £1.
