Aldi follows Sainsbury’s by cutting price of Christmas vegetables to just 15p
Aldi will be slashing the prices of Christmas dinner vegetables to just 15p following Sainsbury's announcement yesterday.
The supermarket chain says the price cuts will be available in stores from December 19 and run until Christmas Eve while stocks last. The vegetables part of Aldi's Christmas Super Six promotion includes white potatoes (2kg), carrots (1kg), parsnips (500g), red and white cabbages (each), Brussels sprouts (500g) and broccoli (15p each). Currently, these vegetables items cost between 75p and £1.69.
Aldi reassured shoppers that the price cuts would not impact farmers as it partners with British growers. Through this partnership, Aldi uses fixed-cost pricing to ensure growers receive a fair price, no matter the season. The supermarket says this commitment allows it to offer shoppers the prices it does without "compromising on quality or fairness."
Aldi is the second supermarket to announce cuts to their staple vegetable range. Sainsbury's confirmed this week that it would be cutting prices on its "By Sainsbury's" range from December 19 until Christmas Eve. However, to be able to claim the discounts you will need to be a Nectar Card member.

Sainsbury's is also cutting the price of its turkeys in the week before Christmas. On December 19, the supermarket is reducing the price of its Fresh Standard Turkeys by 25% to £3 a kilo for Nectar Card members. This offer will run until Boxing Day. For those who do not eat meat, Sainsbury's is also reducing the price of its Scottish Whole Salmon to £7.50 per kg with a Nectar. Without one, this will set you back £15p per kg. This offer will run from December 18 to New Year's Eve on December 31.
Last year, the majority of major UK supermarkets announced price cuts on their Christmas vegetables. With the first two now confirmed, it's likely other retailers will follow over the coming week.
