EE announces major change that affects anyone who uses their mobile phone abroad

EE has confirmed a huge shake-up to how it charges customers for using their mobile phone abroad.

The mobile network has removed a number of roaming add-ons, including its abroad pass and travel data pass. The abroad pass allowed you to use your UK allowance for an extra £25 a month on a rolling 30-day contract, while the travel data pass gave you 500MB of data for £6.74 to £8.45 a day, depending on the destination.

These roaming products will be removed from December 25, 2024 and EE has confirmed they'll be replaced by a number of new options, which launched last week. If you have EU roaming already included in your plan, this will not be affected by these changes.

The mobile network has listed its new charges for different country zones. EE customers can still pay £2.47 a day to access their mobile allowance within Europe but the option of paying £25 for a monthly pass in Europe appears to have been removed. EE says it will be introducing a new seven-day pass for Europe roaming next year, but has not revealed details or pricing yet.

EE has also created a series of new roaming zones, with starting from £5 a day, or £25 for a seven-day pass, for countries including the USA and Australia, while the most expensive add-on costs £15 a day for customers visiting places such as the Maldives.

Customers will receive a text when they're next abroad, giving them the specific rates for their destination and what to do next. The shake-up was first revealed by ISPreview who also revealed a full breakdown of the new roaming zones.
