Almost half of Brits will visit their local on Christmas Day, giving a boost to pubs.
The new poll by Smart Energy GB found 49% will venture to a boozer to raise a toast. It comes as the British Beer and Pub Association have estimated that 300 million pints will be pulled this month, pouring £3.3 billion into the economy.
The festive season is the busiest time of year for inns, with December amounting to 9.5% of annual beer sales in pubs. The Smart Energy GB research also found Britons are also keen to support their local restaurants and shops this year – with a quarter saying they have ordered their turkey from their local butcher.

Almost half, 47%, are visiting their greengrocer for festive fruit and veg, while 42% will be buying Christmas cheese from their nearest deli. When it comes to presents, 26% of people said they have been buying these from local gift shops rather than relying on the internet.
Other ways the country will be supporting their local community over the festive period include going to a local restaurant for a Christmas Eve meal and visiting a nearby barber or hairdresser to get party-ready. Victoria Bacon, director at Smart Energy GB, said: “It’s great to see Brits supporting their local businesses this Christmas.
“We can see over half of local businesses are going to extend their hours, even though running costs are a concern. Getting a smart meter installed can help small business owners to manage their energy usage and costs.”
